Safe Extraction and Seamless Renewal

Architectural Mirror Replacement

Professional removal of failed, desilvered, or cracked architectural mirrors and installation of precision replacements — including upgrades to smart LED mirrors for commercial interiors.

Removing Damaged Mirrors Safely — Then Replacing Them Correctly

Replacing a large architectural mirror — a full gym wall, a hotel feature installation, or a floor-to-ceiling residential panel — is one of the most physically dangerous maintenance tasks in a commercial building. The combination of heavy weight, brittle glass, and adhesive that has bonded to masonry for years creates significant extraction risk. An uncontrolled mirror collapse during removal can cause serious injury and contaminate the entire floor area with razor-edged glass fragments. This is not a DIY or general handyman task — it requires specialised wire-saw equipment, safety film application protocol, and experienced glass handling teams.

JWE has completed mirror installations and replacements across 40 floors of the KLCC Lot 91 condominium — a project involving hundreds of full-height architectural mirrors installed with precision and without damage to the surrounding finishes. That project-scale capability translates directly to single-room and single-panel replacement jobs: we bring the same systematic approach to every extraction and installation regardless of scope. After replacing the mirror, we can also upgrade the installation to LED smart mirrors with anti-fog function, touch-activated backlighting, and Bluetooth audio if required.

Controlled Extraction

We apply safety film to the existing mirror before cutting through the adhesive with wire-saw equipment. The film holds fragments together during extraction, eliminating the risk of a shattering collapse during removal.

Substrate Preparation

After extraction, we scrape, level, and prime the exposed wall substrate. High points left in the adhesive layer can create stress concentrations that crack the new mirror — substrate preparation is as critical as the installation itself.

Smart Mirror Upgrade Option

We supply and install LED smart mirrors with anti-fog heating elements, touch-activated perimeter lighting, and Bluetooth audio integration — a direct upgrade from a plain replacement that adds lasting value to the space.

Proven at Scale

KLCC Lot 91 — 40 Floors

JWE completed mirror installations across 40 floors of KLCC Lot 91, one of KL's premier residential towers. The project involved full-height architectural mirrors installed to exacting tolerances across hundreds of units without surface damage to surrounding finishes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the black edging appearing on my mirror?

The black edging is called desilvering — moisture has penetrated the mirror's edge and is attacking the reflective silver backing from behind. Once it starts, it progressively worsens and cannot be reversed. It is caused by using acidic cleaners near the mirror's edge, poor edge sealing during installation, or high-humidity environments without adequate ventilation. The only remedy is replacing the mirror. When we install the replacement, we use copper-free mirrors with acid-neutral adhesives to prevent the same failure from recurring.

Can large mirrors be removed without damaging the wall?

Yes — when extracted correctly. Our method applies safety film before cutting through the adhesive with wire-saw equipment, which keeps the glass intact during extraction and prevents uncontrolled breakage. Some minor substrate damage (paint, skim coat) at the adhesive contact points is unavoidable, which is why substrate preparation and priming before installing the replacement mirror is part of our standard scope — not an extra.

Can you upgrade a plain mirror to a smart LED mirror at the same time?

Yes. Since we are already extracting the existing mirror and preparing the substrate, the incremental effort to install an LED smart mirror instead of a plain replacement is relatively small. Smart mirrors require an electrical connection to the lighting and heating element — we coordinate the electrical rough-in with your electrician, or can advise on the specification if you want to engage a separate contractor for that scope. This is often the best time to upgrade, as the disruption cost is already absorbed by the replacement work.
