Glass Bar Counters
Custom glass bar counters and display units for restaurants, hotels, and F&B outlets — back-lit glass counter panels, 15–19mm tempered bar tops, suspended glass bottle shelving, and integrated LED systems. Reference: Grand Imperial Restaurant.
The Bar Counter as Architectural Statement — Fabricated to Commercial Durability Standards
In F&B design, the bar counter is the focal point of the space — it is what guests see first, what staff work at for entire shifts, and what photographs when the restaurant appears in publications or social media. A glass bar counter executed correctly creates a visual drama that timber and stone cannot match: back-lit glass panels glow with warmth and colour, suspended glass bottle shelving appears to float against the wall, and the bar top surface reflects the ambient lighting of the dining room in a way that makes the entire counter feel alive. Delivered correctly, a glass bar counter is not a decorative feature — it is the defining architectural element of the hospitality interior.
JWE has completed glass bar counter installations for Grand Imperial Restaurant and other commercial F&B clients. Our bar top specification uses 15mm or 19mm fully tempered glass — thick enough to absorb the daily impact of glasses, bottles, and cleaning equipment without surface marking, and tempered so that any breakage produces blunt-edged granules rather than sharp shards in a food-service environment. Back-lit counter panels use either edge-lit glass (where LED strips at the glass perimeter illuminate the glass body from the edge, creating a uniform glow) or back-illuminated frosted glass panels with LED arrays behind. Suspended bottle shelving uses 12mm tempered glass with polished edges, supported by stainless steel through-bolt fittings at the wall and glass-to-glass standoffs between shelf levels. All electrical connections for integrated LED systems are coordinated with the M&E contractor and terminated to the bar counter's dedicated electrical circuit before the glass installation begins.
Back-Lit Counter Panels
Edge-lit or back-illuminated frosted glass counter panels create the signature glowing bar aesthetic. LED strip positioning, diffuser glass specification, and colour temperature are designed before fabrication. We coordinate electrical termination points with your M&E contractor and conceal all wiring within the counter structure.
15–19mm Tempered Bar Tops
Bar top glass at 15mm or 19mm fully tempered withstands daily commercial use without surface damage. Polished edges are standard, with optional bevelled or pencil-edge profiles. Cutouts for integrated sinks, drainage, or equipment are cut before tempering — glass cannot be cut or drilled after tempering without shattering.
Suspended Glass Bottle Shelving
12mm tempered glass shelves with polished edges, supported by stainless steel through-bolt wall fixings and glass-to-glass standoff fittings between shelf levels. Structural loading is calculated from bottle weight and shelf span. The result is shelving that appears to float while carrying the full weight of a commercial bottle display.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a sink or drainage cutout be made in a glass bar top?
Yes — cutouts for integrated sinks, drainage grates, or equipment openings must be cut and finished before the glass is tempered. Tempered glass cannot be drilled or cut after tempering without shattering the entire panel. This means the bar top design — including the exact position, size, and shape of every cutout — must be finalised before the glass is ordered. We work from your detailed design drawings and confirm all cutout positions in writing before production begins. Cutout edges are polished to match the panel perimeter finish.
What is the maximum length of a glass bar top without a joint?
Standard tempering furnace dimensions limit clear glass panels to approximately 2,400mm x 4,800mm, so a bar top of up to 4,800mm in a single panel is achievable with most processors. For longer counters, panels are joined with a polished butt-joint or a narrow stainless steel channel that conceals the join cleanly. The join position is designed to fall in a low-traffic zone where possible — not at the primary service point where staff and tools concentrate. We design the panel layout to minimise visible joins while staying within processing constraints.
How is a glass bar counter cleaned and maintained?
Glass bar tops and counter panels are cleaned with standard glass cleaner and a soft cloth — no abrasives, no solvent-based cleaners that can attack sealant joints, and no steam cleaning on back-lit panels where moisture could enter the LED housing. Suspended glass shelving should be inspected annually for any signs of hardware loosening at the wall fixings — a minor re-tighten is normal after the first year as the wall fixing embedment settles. The LED systems in back-lit panels are accessible for bulb or strip replacement through the counter base or via removable rear access panels that we design into the counter structure. We provide a brief maintenance guide on handover of every installation.
